Flaws in Professor Oak + Pokemon

I've literally just started playing pokemon Yellow again since Pearl's gone missing, plus I refuse to buy Platinum because it's almost the same along with HeartGold and SoulSilver. Anyway...

Yeah, Oak's a professor and he's been studying pokemon, but what does he do: Give you an empty pokedex. Now that's research. He doesn't seem to think much, either: "Oh I just met you... here, have this dangerous animal that will turn into a dragon one day and eat your face off." He's the leading pokemon scientist and only has THREE EFFING POKEMON, and he isn't the best with welcoming strangers... "Welcome to the world of pokemon! Are you a boy or a girl?" ...That would just offend me.

There are some pretty stupid things that the game doesn't want to take into mind: You walk into a hospital free of charge, but go to a shop and Lemonade costs 350. What the shit. When you get a lvl 100 Charizard that can't burn through a bush you can only have a lvl 8 Oddish cut through it. I would just be humiliated if I was that Charizard. If there's a wooden fence you're fucked, and since when did female bunnies lay freakin' eggs? My goodness...

Did any of this ever come across you whilst you were playing it? At least one of these things must have. But there was one thing I loved doing...

And I don't know about why 'Only 3 pokemon to choose from to be your starter' is the thing.

....Why couldn't you just use Fly to get to the next town, Dan? Who walks anymore once they learn Fly?

Here's some logic, teaching Fly to a flying pokemon that is smaller than you. How does one fly on something that is smaller than them?
